First time use

When customers first turn on their new devices, they may see a setup wizard to help get started. Take a look at the steps below to help walk customers through the setup process if needed.

  1. Ensure the SIM card is inserted. This device has a non-removable battery that comes pre-inserted.
  2. Tap English and then select your desired language if necessary.
  3. Tap ACCESSIBILITY to adjust any necessary accessibility settings.
  4. Tap the Start arrow to move to the next screen.
  5. Tap the Wi-Fi switch to turn on Wi-Fi if desired. Tap an available network to connect, complete the connection setup, and tap OK.
  6. Tap NEXT.
  7. Review the Terms and Conditions, tap the checkboxes on the left, then tap AGREE.
  8. Wait for the device check for any software updates.
  9. Follow the steps to sign in to your Google account.
  10. Tap More options > Create account to create a new Google account if needed.
  11. Choose a backup to restore or tap DON'T RESTORE to set up as a new device.
  12. Tap one of the following Protect your phone options or tap No thank you > SKIP > SKIP ANYWAY:
    • Set up Face Recognition
    1. Setup a backup Pattern, PIN or Password
    2. Follow the directions to capture your image to begin the scan.
    3. Once the scan is complete, select the notifications that will display on the lock screen > Show content, hide content, or do not show notifications and tap DONE.
    4. Tap NEXT.
    • Set up Iris Scanner
      1. Setup and a backup Pattern, PIN or Password
      2. Follow the directions to capture your Iris image to begin the scan.
      3. Once the scan is complete, select the notifications that will display on the lock screen > Show content, hide content, or do not show notifications and tap DONE.
      4. Tap NEXT.
    • Set up Fingerprint Scanner
      1. Set up a backup Pattern, PIN or Password
      2. Follow the directions to place your finger on the Home key to begin the scan.
      3. If the finger is not able to be detected, a pop up asking you to move your finger will appear, tap CONTINUE.
      4. Once the scan is complete, select the notifications that will display on the lock screen > Show content, hide content, or do not show notifications and tap DONE.
      5. Tap NEXT.
    • Set up PIN, pattern, or password
      1. Select the security feature you want to setup and follow the prompts to create and confirm.
      2. Once the security feature setup is complete, select the notifications that will display on the lock screen > Show content, hide content, or do not show notifications and tap DONE.
      3. Tap NEXT.
  13. Tap the sliders to adjust any Google services, then tap AGREE.
  14. Review additional apps to be downloaded, then tap OK.
  15. Follow the steps to sign into your existing account if desired or create a new Samsung account.
    • To bypass, tap SKIP > SKIP.
    • Review Samsung Terms and Conditions, then tap AGREE. Follow any additional Samsung.
  16. Make desired selections on RESTORE DATA screen, then tap RESTORE.
  17. Review the Check out useful features screen, then tap FINISH to complete the setup.
  18. Review Device Data Collection, Issue Assist, and Personalized Offers, then tap ACCEPT.
