Guided Ring Setup

A new Ring Engraving Wizard is included with GravoStyle 6 software. This wizard guides the operator through a step-by-step process of setting up the ring engraving job (See Figures 2, 3 & 5) making the process straightforward.

Choose the object to be engraved, in this case a ring rather than a plate or some other object (Figure 2).

Choose engraving the inside or outside of the ring. Inside is chosen in this image.

Input the ring dimensions. The image shows the choice from the prior step.

Choose the engraving machine model (See Figure 3). In this case, the M20 Jewel is the only model available.

Choose the ring holding jaws. You select which set of jaws to use depending on the shape of the ring. The images at this step depict all work-holding choices associated with the selected machine model.

The pin jaws are used to hold symmetrical rings that are relatively flat on the outside. The plastic ring jaws are used for thicker rings and rings with settings. In addition, a white sliding jaw (See Figure 4) can be moved in and out to maintain concentricity. The jaws are self-centering and adjusted by rotating the outer edge of the device.

Choose the orientation of the text depending on how you position the ring in the device (facing forward or to the back).

The final setup step (See Figure 5) is to size and position the engraved text on the ring. Again, the depicted image is updated to represent the machine model chosen in an earlier step. There are three methods to choose among in this step.

The simplest choice, Automatic location, is where all parameters are automatic and your text is centered. This approach yields the maximal character height using an optimized automatic margin.

The second option, Centered on object, (See Figure 6) lets you determine the character height while the text remains centered.

The third option, Free Position, gives you complete flexibility to define size and position (See Figure 7). Use this when you want to engrave on the side or to avoid engraving over an area with stamped markings (e.g. 14 carat).

As soon as you OK the Ring Wizard, enter your inscription, change the font style, if desired, and send the job to the engraver.

Positioning The Ring

When positioning the ring in the machine, simply line up the ring with the white arrow (See Figure 9). The white arrow indicates the center.

Engraving rings is easy with the Ring Wizard. And, the machine’s versatility allows many different items to be engraved using the self-centering vise and the many available work-holding jigs. A pen attachment is available to rotate the pen while engraving.
